Is It Wise to Get a Trampoline for Your Child?

Trampolines can be both therapeutic and entertaining and even cost-effective since both family members and friends alike can enjoy them, and they come in a variety of styles and colors to suit every decor, whether indoors or outdoors.

But here are some things to consider before buying one for your child: Is it wise to get a trampoline for your child? Do trampolines affect your homeowner’s insurance? What is the difference between indoor trampolines and outdoor trampolines? What are trampolines good for?

Trampolines and Your Child

Getting a trampoline for your child can be a wise investment since it can be both therapeutic and can help your children burn off extra energy.

There’s nothing like trampolines for giving useful active proprioceptive input and burning off excess energy to make for early bedtimes and peaceful family relations.

The bad news is that getting a trampoline for your child can be hazardous. Serious injuries can occur with improper use or if the trampoline is cared for improperly.

It is especially essential always to supervise your child while using a trampoline — the most common injuries are muscle tears and strains, cuts, and scrapes.

Trampolines and Homeowners’ Insurance

When getting a trampoline for your child, it is essential to check the homeowner’s insurance because many homeowners’ insurance policies forbid them.

So always check with your policy or your landlord first before getting a trampoline for your child.

Another option for getting a trampoline for your child is purchasing an indoor one. Though smaller, they can provide many hours of fun, and many of the same benefits.

And they are smaller and more comfortable to store, making them ideal for apartments and small homes.

What Are Trampolines Good For?

The good news is that trampolines are great therapeutic tools for kids with sensory integration problems or hyperactivity issues. While these may not have been factors you considered before, when you get a trampoline for your child, it is something to keep in mind.

A trampoline for your child may be the ideal exercise outlet you have been looking for. Even on hot summer days, propping a sprinkler beneath it, or getting an optional accessory like a camping top, can provide hours of fun for the whole family and offer a refreshing break from the heat. Just don’t forget the sunscreen and always put safety first!

Parenting The Easy Way: A Kid Trampoline

One of the most requested items from children today is the kid trampoline. There is simply nothing like bouncing away in the backyard on a summer night with friends that are getting more jealous with every jump.

If you need more incentive than envy to sell you on a kid trampoline, you might want to consider that the trampoline is also an educational tool and was ranked as one of the top children’s teaching tools in the past few years.

Teaching Life Skills

Now, it is probably abundantly clear to you that your child somehow had a small chat with the author of this article and that this is some trick to fool you into buying a kid trampoline. This could not be further from the truth.

On the contrary, I generally do not care much for the happiness of children and frankly want the best for the family unit. That is why I can say, with high confidence, that a kid trampoline is an educational tool that will help prepare your children for life.

The most obvious reason for making a trampoline purchase for your family is the tremendous fun that you will have as a family when you enjoy evenings and afternoons on the trampoline.

Many physicians recommend against bouncing on a trampoline in the morning because it can make the rest of the day seem “slow” in comparison to the abundant exhilaration experienced on the trampoline.

Secondary to the fun factor is the education factor; however, this is the reverse for others. The education factor for parents is vitally important, so the revelation that a kid trampoline can significantly affect and improve your child’s movement skills, knowledge of motor skills, and understanding of equilibrium will shock many a parent.

The reality is, however, that a kid trampoline can significantly improve the child’s motor skills and improve how they generally move. It merely creates more careful movement and a greater understanding of evolution.

Without that understanding of movement, your child is likely to be clumsy and out of place in a world that requires knowledge of evolution.

Many pediatricians suggest an integration of natural movement with the movement offered in another environment, such as a trampoline, to help improve how children function and move about.

It stands to reason, therefore, that a kid trampoline is a vitally important tool in the overall development of your child.

The 10 Best Trampoline Games For Kids

Fun Trampoline GamesDid you invest all kinds of money into a trampoline that your kids just “had to have,” only to find it sitting untouched in the yard 1 year later because they have already traded in their beloved trampoline for the latest electronic gadget?

Sure, bouncing on a trampoline is a blast…for the first 20 minutes anyway.

And then it’s on to the next thing they can get into. Perhaps if you try incorporating some of these fun trampoline games into their jump time, it will get them back out on the trampoline, and you won’t feel like your investment was an epic fail.

1.Crack the Egg

One person, the “egg,” curls up in the center of the trampoline and holds their knees into their chest. The others jump around and try to make the “egg” let go of their legs, aka “crack the egg.” Once the egg is cracked, they choose the next person to be the “egg.”

2.Dodge ball

Split into two teams. One team is on the ground, and the other side is on the trampoline. The crew on the ground cannot be within 5 ft of the trampoline. They will throw the ball at the jumpers’ legs and feet (must be below the waist or doesn’t count!). The jumpers try to avoid the shot. If they get hit, they are out. The last remaining jumper is the winner, and then the teams switch. You can also change it up by having the jumpers trying to hit the team on the ground within a “marked” area. They can only throw the ball while in the air.

3.Hot Potato

The players must continue jumping until they are “out.” A softball is tossed between the players, and they must catch the ball and toss it to the next player. If any players don’t find the ball, drop it, or stop jumping, they are “out” and have to take a seat. The last jumper remaining is the winner.

4.Trampoline Basketball

Add a basketball hoop to your net enclosure and play a round of H.O.R.S.E., Around the World, or a classic game of one-on-one.

5.Sequence

All players sit along with the padding of the trampoline. The first person goes to the center and starts the jump sequence, doing any style jump they would like (double bounce, bottom drop, knee drop, etc.). The next person has to do the first person jump, followed by their own, and so on down the line. The game ends with the first person that started the sequence, and they must complete the entire series starting with their own. If anyone messes up the series, the game starts all over. NOTE: Flips and tricks are not advised for this game to avoid injuries.

6.Poison Ball

First, get a few bouncy balls and place them on the trampoline, which can be any number depending on the size of the ball. The players start with three lives and have to continue jumping on the trampoline without stopping and without touching any of the shots. If you move a ball three times, you are out and have to sit down. The last person jumping is the winner.

7.Duck-Duck-Goose

Playing a classic game, such as duck-duck-goose, on a trampoline can mix things up a bit by adding a bounce.

You can take several classic games and transform them into trampoline games. There are also plenty of other ways you can make your trampoline fun and exciting again. Try some of these ideas:

8.Chalk Drawing

Your trampoline can make a great canvas for your children’s artwork, especially if you prefer it not be all over the driveway. Get them some chalk and let their creative minds go to town, making beautiful artwork, playing a game of tic-tac-toe, or even hopscotch with a twist. It also makes for easy cleanup.

9.Sprinklers

In the heat of the summer, the trampoline can get hot! Have the kids put on their bathing suits and turn on the sprinklers underneath. This will keep them fresh and entertained for a lot longer.

10. Add Music

Add some tunes for the kids (or adults) while they jump and turn it into the ultimate dance party.

As you can see, there are plenty of ways to keep your kids interested in the trampoline and having a blast. Just remember, it is imperative to exercise caution with any of these games.

A safety net enclosure is strongly recommended to avoid any falls off the trampoline. Also, adding water to the trampoline can make it slippery, so be extra cautious.

Additionally, having multiple jumpers on the trampoline may increase the risk of injury, especially when attempting somersaults and flips. Children should always be supervised by adults when jumping.
