In autumn and winter, the weather is more and more cold and dry. At the same time, BB’s skin is thin and tender, the skin thickness is only 40-60% of that of adults, and the protective power of sebum membrane is relatively weak, especially prone to dry mark sensitivity.
To keep your baby’s skin healthy and smooth in winter, parents can pay attention to the following 6 key points of care:
1. Choose suitable and breathable winter clothing
The sebaceous glands and sweat glands of infants are not fully developed, and their functions of sweat and body temperature regulation are not mature, so they are easy to generate heat.
Parents can choose cotton clothes for their babies, which are not only breathable and comfortable but also absorb sweat.
If the weather is too cold to wear the woolen sweater, it is best to use the cotton sweater as the base to avoid direct contact of wool with BB skin, causing irritation or sensitivity.
And the thickness of the baby’s clothes should be about the same as that of the adult. Do not pack the baby like a dog at any time! New parents can also measure the baby’s temperature for testing. The normal ear temperature is about 36.5 to 37.5 ℃.
2. Pay attention to indoor temperature and humidity
To prevent the baby from getting cold, the parents may turn on the heating at home, but they should pay attention to the temperature not too high, and keep it at about 25 ℃.
Besides, turning on the heating will further reduce the indoor humidity and aggravate the drying problem. It is suggested that parents can place humidifiers or a glass of water at the same time to avoid low humidity.
If the indoor humidity can be controlled between 50% and 60%, it is the best.
3. The cooling water temperature should not be overheated
If you use too hot water when you shower, it will wash away the natural oil of the skin, making the skin dry and itchy.
Therefore, when parents help BB cool down, the water temperature should be kept at about 37 ℃, and the cooling time should not exceed 10 minutes.
Besides, parents can try their best to choose a mild, hypoallergenic shower gel without spices, preservatives, and other stimulating ingredients to reduce the chances of BB skin allergy.
4. Strengthen Moisturizing
Baby’s skin is thin, and proper moisturizing can strengthen the protective barrier of cuticle.
After bathing and before heating, apply moisturizer. If the baby’s skin is dehydrated and itchy, you can consider using ointment with thicker texture to reduce water loss.
In terms of ingredients, you can choose natural mild, penetrating, and skin-friendly ones, such as glycerin, olive oil, chamomile, sweet almond oil, jojoba oil, shea butter, coconut oil, oats, etc.
If the baby has skin problems such as eczema, it is advisable to consult a doctor first.
5. Change diapers regularly
Even if the weather is cold, parents should not be afraid of the baby’s cold and reduce the number of diaper changes.
It is recommended to cover the baby’s belly with a towel and clean his lower body with warm water when changing the film.
After cleaning, you can use the anti-bacterial and moisturizing cream to strengthen the protection and moistening of your baby’s buttocks, to prevent diaper rash or dryness sensitivity.
6. Outdoor sun protection
Autumn and winter are good times for picnics, hiking, and other activities, but the baby’s skin is vulnerable to ultraviolet light,
When you go out, don’t neglect the sun protection measures, such as wearing UV resistant clothes and hats, or applying suitable sun protection products for your baby.
